A Realm of Splintered Crowns is a fantasy novel following Sam, a eighteen-year-old girl who has become very good at understanding what is expected of her—and playing the part. But when she and her best friend, Kyra, are pulled from their ordinary world into a realm of fractured kingdoms, ancient loyalties, and expectations far more dangerous than anything Sam left behind, the roles assigned to her begin to multiply. Suddenly surrounded by people who seem certain they know who she is, what she owes them, and what she is meant to become, Sam must decide how much of herself she is willing to surrender to someone else’s story. Rooted in Arthurian legend, otherworld folklore, and the question of who gets to determine our place in the world, A Realm of Splintered Crowns is ultimately a story about sovereignty—the difference between becoming who you were told to be and choosing who you will be for yourself.
Inside the World of Narlimot
THE WORLD
The story moves between two very different worlds. Wheldrake Park is Sam and Kyra’s home—a modern town of high school, friendships, relationships, and all the expectations that come with being eighteen and standing on the edge of adulthood. Narlimot lies somewhere beyond it: an otherworld shaped by the legends of Camelot, where castles and ancient forests replace familiar streets and the remnants of an Arthurian past are anything but myth. Crossing from Wheldrake Park into Narlimot means stepping into a story Sam and Kyra thought they already knew—only to discover that legends look very different when told by the people who lived them.
THE CHARACTERS
Sam and Kyra have spent years navigating their own world together, despite approaching it in very different ways. Sam understands systems by learning what is expected of her; Kyra has always been more interested in questioning why those expectations exist at all. In Wheldrake Park and Narlimot, that difference becomes far more consequential as they encounter The Black Knight, Leodor, and others whose loyalties—and expectations of the two girls—were formed long before their arrival.
THE MAGIC
Magic in the realm is intertwined with its history, its rulers, and the legacies they left behind. Old powers have survived the same fractures that divided the kingdoms, while certain bloodlines and inheritances carry meanings that Sam and Kyra cannot yet understand. Here, magic is never only about what someone is capable of doing, it can determine what others believe they are entitled to ask of them.
THE LEGENDS
Narlimot carries the echoes of a story Sam and Kyra already know: Camelot. Kings and queens, knights and swords, betrayals and broken kingdoms have survived in their world as Arthurian legend. But the stories told in Wheldrake Park are not necessarily the stories remembered in Narlimot. History changes depending on who is allowed to tell it, and some of the realm’s most familiar legends may have very different truths waiting beneath them.
The Story So Far
A Realm of Splintered Crowns is currently in development as a high-fantasy novel, weaving an original story together with echoes of Arthurian legend.
